HYBRID HYBRID
The use of the word “hybrid” has increased significantly over the past two years. The term originates from Greek and refers to something that is crossed or combined.
Initially, it was mainly used in connection with hybrid vehicle systems – a combination of combustion and electric engines. More recently, however, the term has increasingly been used to describe different forms of work.

With his café “St. Oberholz” in Berlin-Mitte, he was one of the pioneers of mobile working. Now entrepreneur Ansgar Oberholz has new plans – for the countryside.
“I believe Brandenburg will become increasingly important,” Oberholz told the German Press Agency. “The next big thing for Berlin is Brandenburg.” No other metropolitan region, he said, has an isolated location quite like Berlin’s.
COWORKING GOES CORPORATE
From hot desks to flex offices St. Oberholz is a prime example of how coworking spaces have changed and grown over time. Initially conceived as a lively place for remote workers to soak up the vibrant start-up spirit and entrepreneurial vibes, they offered a solution to those fed up with being stuck at home.

“We are always looking for special spaces for our locations,” says Head of Coffee Felix Breun*, who says that the cafe’s handcrafted furnishings are made from sustainable materials such as wood and slate. “The façade of St Torstrasse might look dreary at first but at its core it is a great building from the Bauhaus era.”
